"Sitting Is The New Smoking" with keynote speaker Lisa Stroth. Lisa is the owner of Vocally Yours.
--For years, we've heard about the detrimental effects smoking can have on the body, particularly the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and many have heeded the warnings and have quit the habit. Now, studies are showing that a sedentary life and/or sedentary job can have effects on the body that are just as detrimental as smoking. In other words, Sitting Has Become The New Smoking! And, if you're thinking that you can counteract sitting for 8 or more hours a day with a healthy diet and an hour or so of exercise in the gym, think again. In addition to the cardiovascular and respiratory effects, prolonged sitting may also have detrimental musculoskeletal effects. In this workshop, we'll take a look at what studies have shown regarding the effects of prolonged sitting on the body, and we'll discuss some ways we can counteract, or better yet, prevent these changes. And, to make things a little more fun and useful, part of the workshop will be interactive if you choose to participate.
